An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police, Ranjit Singh, lost his service revolver and other belongings on Saturday night on his way back home after duty hours. ASI Ranjit Singh was deputed with the PCR in Tarn Taran town. Official sources revealed that on July 20, he along with Head Constable Gurbhej Singh left for home after duty in Tarn Taran.

On reaching home, Gurbhej Singh received a call on his mobile phone from an unknown number. It was ASI Ranjit Singh who had called him for help as he had lost his service revolver and other belongings. Gurbhej Singh said he went there and saw that besides the service revolver with 11 cartridges, ASI Ranjit Singh had lost his purse, mobile and motorcycle. All the items had been stolen by someone. Head Constable Gurbhej Singh, in his complaint to the Sarhali police, said ASI Ranjit Singh was an addict. ASI Gajjan Singh of the Sarhali police said that a case under Section 303 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashwani Kapur said that departmental action would be taken against ASI Ranjit Singh.
