Aujla raises issue of stalled flyover projects in Lok Sabha

Long-pending flyover projects in the district have once again come under scrutiny, with Lok Sabha MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla raising the issue in Parliament on Wednesday. Calling the stalled structures a symbol of administrative neglect, Aujla questioned Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari over continuous delay in completing the Baba Bakala, Vallah and Loharka Road flyover projects. Aujla said the stalled projects were causing daily misery for commuters.

Aujla told the House that the incomplete flyovers had crippled traffic movement across major routes leading into the city. He said the diversions created around construction sites resulted in frequent traffic congestion, long queues and heightened risk of accidents, especially during the peak hours.

The MP also flagged what he termed serious irregularities in the ongoing work at the Daburji and Golden Gate flyovers. He warned that ignoring these issues would compromise public safety. "These lapses cannot be overlooked. The people of Amritsar are being forced to navigate unsafe and poorly managed stretches every day," he said.

Aujla demanded a high-level inquiry into what he described as delays, corruption and repeated administrative failures surrounding the city's flyover projects. He stressed that transparency and accountability were essential, given the scale of public funds involved and the growing public anger over prolonged construction timelines.

He urged the ministry to step in and ensure a thorough review of the projects, including reasons for missed deadlines, contractor performance, technical changes and utilisation of allocated funds. "Amritsar deserves answers and immediate action," he asserted.

Residents and commuters have welcomed the MP's intervention, saying that the deteriorating condition of key project sites has disrupted daily routines and created safety concerns.
