Batala-based young shooter Kanwar Himmat Singh Goraya has won a bronze medal in the 50-m Rifle Prone Youth event of the Indian Open Competition (National Rifle) being held in Dehradun. According to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Kanwar Himmat, who turned out for Punjab, bagged a total score of 570 points in this event.

Earlier, he had won a bronze medal in the Indian Open Shooting Championship held in Bhopal. In the Gurdaspur district championships, Kanwar had won three gold medals and two silver medals.

Kanwar is a law student at GNDU, Amritsar. He is seen as an upcoming shooter of the region. He gave credit to his coaches and parents and said “they had always encouraged me to do well even if the tide was going against me.”
