Punjab BJP leader seeks inquiry into IAS, IPS officers’ ‘misconduct’

Days after alleged misconduct by IAS and IPS officers during awareness camps organised by BJP leaders, former bureaucrat and BJP general secretary Jagmohan Singh Raju has written to the Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, seeking a formal inquiry into their conduct.

In his letter to Dr TV Somanathan, Raju requested directions to the Punjab Chief Secretary to ensure that such interference does not recur. He also sought red entries in the service records of officers found guilty of misconduct.

Citing the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968, Raju noted that Rule 3 (1A) requires every member to maintain political neutrality, while Rule 3 (2B)(x) obliges officers to “refrain from doing anything which is or may be contrary to any law, rules, regulations and established practices.”

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
