Highlighting deteriorating sanitation conditions in the city, former BJP Amritsar Sports Cell president Manraj Singh Chhina today led a symbolic protest outside MLA Jeevan Jot's office, where large piles of garbage have reportedly remained unattended for several days.

In a pointed and creative critique of the administration, BJP workers installed "selfie point" boards and nameplates directly on the garbage heaps, drawing public attention to what they described as government negligence.

Speaking to the media, Chhina said, "If the MLA cannot get the garbage outside his own office cleared, how can he be expected to look after the cleanliness and development of the entire city and his constituency? This is a clear reflection of the government's failure."

Chhina also criticised recent remarks by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who referred to Amritsar as a "holy city". He questioned the contrast between the government's claims and the on-ground situation.

"Just a few days ago, the Cabinet granted Amritsar the status of a holy city. But the ground reality is completely opposite - garbage piles can be seen across the city. Before making big announcements, basic civic amenities and cleanliness should be ensured."

Calling Amritsar a major tourist destination, he noted that lakhs of visitors travel from India and abroad every year, and the present state of sanitation reflects poorly on both the Municipal Corporation and the administration. "The corporation has completely failed in basic garbage collection," he said.

Issuing a warning, Chhina added that if the garbage issue in the eastern constituency is not resolved soon, BJP workers will install similar "selfie point" protest boards at more locations.

Concluding his statement, he remarked, "Every ordinary citizen cleans the area outside their own house every morning. But if an MLA cannot ensure cleanliness outside his own office, how can he keep the entire constituency clean?"
