Despite repeated incidents, the administration has not taken the issue seriously.
A manhole on the city’s main road, located in front of the SDM office, has been lying broken for more than a month. Residents have strongly criticised the authorities for failing to address the problem, especially since this is one of the busiest roads in the city. The heavy flow of traffic worsens the situation.
A commuter, Jagir Singh, said people travelling on this road at high speed often meet with accidents. He added that the broken manhole cover is not always visible, causing riders, especially those sitting on the rear seat of two-wheelers, to fall and get injured. “This has been happening almost every day,” he said.
Since the office of the SDM-cum-Administrator of the Municipal Council is located nearby, residents feel that the poor condition of the road reflects even more serious administrative negligence.
Municipal Council Superintendent Baljinder Singh said that the broken manhole covers at this location were replaced a few days ago as well. He added that the department is taking immediate action to resolve the issue.
