The BSF intercepted an attempt to smuggle weapons along with heroin along the international border in Tarn Taran district on Friday.

The BSF team apprehended a local farmer along with three others, ahead of border fence at about 11:15 am, and after a thorough search of their tractor-trailer, recovered a bag containing three packets of suspected heroin, the gross weight of which was 3.16 kg along with two pistols and an empty magazines.

The BSF said they had received intelligence about local farmers trying to smuggle drugs. The smugglers apprehended have been identified as residents of Naushera Dhalla village and Munhawa of Moga district.

In another case, the Punjab Police and BSF in Wan Taran Singh border village recovered a packet of heroin with a gross weight of 279.8 grams on Friday noon. The packet was recovered in a torn condition from a harvested paddy field and was wrapped in yellow adhesive tape. An iron hook and an illumination stick were also found attached to the packet.
