BSF, police nab narco smugglers with drugs

In a joint operation, the Border Security Force and Punjab Police nabbed two drug peddlers who had come to retrieve a consignment of narcotics smuggled from Pakistan here on Friday evening. The BSF recovered 475 gm of heroin, three mobile phones and a motorcycle without registration number plate from their possession.

The accused have been handed over to the Gharinda police and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them by the police. Those arrested were identified as Harjinder Singh, alias Bhind, and Vijay, both residents of Rajatal colony.

In a statement, the BSF spokesman said at around 7pm, the BSF ambush party noticed the movements of two suspects coming on a motorcycle near the Rajatal border. They were searching for some contraband smuggled from Pakistan. On seeing the BSF ambush party, they tried to flee the spot, but were chased by BSF jawans. During search, the police seized a packet of heroin weighing around 475 gm along with three cellphones. Their motorcycle was also impounded.

“The contraband packet contained the ring, which indicated that it was smuggled via a drone,” said the BSF. Sub-Inspector Jasdeep Singh of the Gharinda police said a case under Sections 21-C, 25, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against them. He said both were going to supply the drugs. They were stopped when they were going from the border village of Daoke to Rajatal taking the katcha road along the defense drain. He said further probe was on to ascertain their backward and forward linkages.
