Guru Nanak Dev University
Guru Nanak Dev University organised Inter-Department Basketball Competitions for its students. Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean of Student Welfare, said the event was part of the FIT INDIA initiative launched by the Central Government to promote physical fitness among students. Winners were awarded trophies. In the boys’ category, 1st prize was won by comp engineering team, comp science got 2nd spot and electronics bagged third position. For the girls’ category, Comp Engineering secured the first position, law got second and social sciences finished at the 3rd spot.
Khalsa College for Women
Over 50 students and staff members donated blood at a camp, organised at the Khalsa College for Women (KCW) here on Tuesday. The camp was organised by the college in collaboration with the College with Care Today (The India Today group) and LG Electronics, said Dean, Khalsa University (KU), Dr Surinder Kaur. KU Pro-Chancellor and secretary of the Khalsa College Governing Council, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who was the chief guest, appreciated efforts of the Red Cross Club, Rotaract Club, NCC and NSS units of the college for organising the camp.
Ashok Vatika Public School
NCC students of Ashok Vatika Public School took part in the Puneet Sagar and Amrit Sarovar missions of the Centre. They cleaned the new Amritsar canal under the guidance of commanding officer DK Upadhaya, 11 Punjab NCC Battalion. The event was organised with the encouragement of principal Anchal Mahajan. The students were informed about uses and benefits of traditional water resources by Lieutenant Engineer Ravi Kumar. They were also told about importance of water and the need for preserving its resources.
Department of Psychology, GNDU
The Department of Psychology at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) hosted a guest lecture on importance of seeking help, breaking stigma around therapy and mental health awareness. Renowned counselling psychologists Nidhi Arora and Simran Tandon from Bhatia Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Amritsar, led the engaging session. Emphasising the significance of mental well-being and encouraging open conversations around therapy, they highlighted the importance of rapport-building, trust and open communication while seeking professional help.
