Amritsar: The Amritsar Group of Colleges observed a grand celebration of National Science Day on February 27 and 28. The event was organised to pay homage to the eminent Indian scientist Sir CV Raman. The activities held during the celebration included working models, poster presentations, programming-based models, logic behind the facts, PPTs, and more. The students displayed exemplary skills and creativity, reflecting their deep interest in scientific exploration. Amrit Singh, Sumanpreet Kaur, and Rohit Kumar Mahata were adjudged winners in programming-based models, poster presentations, and working model demonstrations, respectively. Dr Gaurav Tejpal, principal, AGC, expressed his appreciation for the students’ active participation, emphasising the importance of such events in developing independent project work.

Annual Athletics Meet at KCET

The 9th Annual Athletics Meet was held at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET) in which sports activities and award distribution ceremonies were organised. Following the flag hoisting ceremony, the sports competitions followed in which Rishika and Danish Zahoor were declared best athlete in the girls and boys categories, respectively. Raja Babu won first position in 100m boys while Paru Bist stood first in 100m girls’ race. In 200m race, Aatif won the first position, while Vivak won the 800m boys’ race. In 400m girls’ race, Mausam got the first position and Danish Zahoor won the long jump boys’, while Rishika won long jump girls’. Similarly, Rajvir Singh and Rishika were declared winners in shot put boys’ and girls’ category, respectively. The tug-of-war among girls was won by the Department of Paramedical Sciences, while engineering wing won tug-of-war in boys’ category. Dhruv won the chess tournament. The winners of badminton tournament were Dansih, Adnan, Anhat and Tanu. The volleyball tournament was won by BTech wing of the college. Among the faculty members, Baranada David, assistant professor, PMS, was declared the best female athlete while Ashish Dhiman from admin department was declared as best male athlete.

Director of SSSS School honoured

Honouring visionary leaders in education, Jaspal Bhatti Foundation awarded Jagdish Singh, Director, SSSS Group of Institutions, with a lifetime achievement award. It was expressed that his visionary guidance and tireless efforts have not only shaped the academic environment at SSSS but have also inspired countless students and educators. Director Swaran Kaur along with principal, SSSS School, Dr Gurrattan Singh also received guest of honour at the event for his outstanding contributions in the field of education, marking a momentous recognition of his dedicated leadership and commitment to academic excellence. President of Jaspal Bhatti Foundation Rajinder Rikhi, Punjabi veteran actor Shivinder Mahal and Dr Rakesh Kumar were also present on the occasion.

National Science day celebrated

The Department of Education celebrated the National Science Day on the theme “Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat”. Dr Amit Kauts, head, department of education, and Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts, dean, faculty of education, presided as the guests of the event. Addressing the students, Kauts remarked, “Let’s invent new things and contribute to society’s development.” Speaking about the theme of the year, he said that it is a big opportunity for people and scientists, both in India and around the world, to work together. The theme also aims to make people aware of the importance of using our technology and innovations. It’s about making India self-reliant. This theme helps the public to think more practically and scientifically. Jaideep Kaur and Seema, both students of BSc BEd (ITEP) presented their ideas through presentation on indigenous technology in a very effective way.

Career Guidance for students

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce and Business Administration, Khalsa College, Amritsar, organised under “Community Services Programme” career guidance for Class XII students of Government Sr Sec School, Mirzajan, Batala. The programme was planned and executed under the guidance of Dr Mehal Singh, programme chairman, and Dr AK Kahlon, programme director, and Dr Swaraj Kaur, programme coordinator. Principal Mehal Singh appreciated the initiative of the commerce department and congratulated them for successfully organising the event. The students were shown the commerce department, including department library, commerce lab, computer lab and research lab. Dr AK Kahlon, head and dean, commerce, motivated the school students by saying that the department of commerce has a stellar reputation for its course curriculum development, teaching, and research in the field of commerce.
