A caterer, Anil Puri, a resident of Kangra Colony was attacked by four armed persons and robbed of Rs 30,000 here on Friday morning. The incident took place near the 40-Khuh area when he was going to the vegetable market at Vallah for buying vegetables.
He was admitted to a private hospital and the Mohkampura police station has registered a case on the statement of his relative in this connection. The police authorities said investigation was under progress.
According to information available, the victim, who was on a scooter, reached near the 40-Khuh area near Joura Phatak, four unknown persons travelling on two bikes intercepted him. They attacked him with weapons and snatched the bag containing the cash and fled.
Traders of the vegetable market expressed their concern over the rising incidents of robbery near the market as hundreds of customers visited the market in the early morning hours for buying vegetables and fruits. They had repeatedly urged the police authorities for making tight security arrangements at the mandi.
Meanwhile, in another incident, the police nabbed a snatcher, identified as Chanpreet Singh of Mandir Wala Bazaar on Sultanwind Road, who was trying to escape after snatching a bag from local resident Charanjit Singh.
He told the police that around 9 pm when he was going home after closing his shop, three bike-borne persons stopped him near Hussainpura Chowk. They snatched his bag. However, he caught hold of Chanpreet Singh while his accomplice Arun and another unknown youth fled the spot. The police have registered a case in this regard.
