On the third day of the 22nd Bharat Rang Mahotsav organised by the National School of Drama in Amritsar under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Chetna Rang Group staged the saga of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan of Delhi under the direction of Ashish Srivastava.
Written by Ashish Srivastav, the play “Prithviraj Chauhan” was presented with a grandeur of a period drama that it was. Retelling the tale of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, who died young, while defending his country, his honour, was depicted as a man of his words. Even after a thousand years of his death, he is remembered for his courage, loyalty and heroism. Right from the court politics to his rivalry with Jaichand and his love story with Samyogita, the play gave account of Prithvi Raj Chauhan through the lens of history.
The director used multi-media effects, creating shadows and 3D effects for dramatisation. Festival director Rajinder Singh and Amita Sharma from Amritsar said the plays being staged during the festival were diverse with their subjects, but common binding theme was nationalism and the role of historical figures in nationalist movements from time to time.
