CIA staff arrest man with heroin, weapon

A team of the local CIA staff led by Inspector Amandeep Singh, in charge of the staff, arrested a motorcycle-borne rider with 1.7 kg of heroin and illegal weapon here on Monday.

SSP Abhimanyu told newsmen here on Tuesday that the accused has been identified as Baljinder Singh, alias Rambo, a resident of Mohalla Chathuian in Patti. The SSP said the police party was on routine night patrolling on Monday when the accused was seen moving in the area under suspicious circumstances.

While frisking the suspect, they recovered 1.7 kg of heroin, a country-made pistol and a cartridge from his possession. A case under Sections 21-C, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered.

The accused was produced in a court, which sent him to police custody for two days. The SSP said more seizures are expected during the interrogation of the suspect. His relations with Pakistan-based smugglers cannot be ruled out, added the SSP.
