City hosts donation festival to support needy till Oct 5

A special donation festival is being held in the city till October 5 by the district administration, in association with Red Cross Society, to encourage people to donate unused items from their homes to the needy.

On this occasion, Chairman of the Improvement Trust, Karamjit Singh Rintu, reached the Ranjit Avenue Community Centre where he said that helping the needy is the biggest virtue. He appreciated the efforts of the administration and the Red Cross for working with NGOs to support society. He urged the youth to come forward and take part in such noble causes.

He added that many items like clothes, shoes, books, toys and electronics often lie unused in homes, but these can be of great value to the needy families. He expressed happiness that a large number of schoolchildren are also participating in the festival by donating unused goods.

Assistant Commissioner Piyusha welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of community involvement. She appealed to NGOs and organisations to promote the campaign in their areas so that maximum awareness and participation can be achieved. She also stressed that such initiatives match the spirit of the Government of India’s Mission LiFE programme.

During the event, several NGOs and organisations took part. Large quantities of reusable clothes, footwear, books, toys and other useful items were collected and will be distributed to needy individuals in different parts of the district.

Secretary of Red Cross, Samson Masih, and Head of CAS, Gurdarshan Kaur Bawa, along with other NGO members, were also present.
