Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla has been appointed a member of parliamentary committee on welfare of OBCs by the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Aujla thanked the Speaker and the Congress high command for the privilege of serving on the committee. He said that he has always been committed to the welfare of backward classes and the development of the country is possible only with the development of all sections of society.

He said that through the Lok Sabha committee, it will be possible to work for the uplift of backward classes. The MP also said that many schemes run by the government for backward classes should percolate down to the lowest level and that he would make efforts in this direction.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
