Confusion over the Nanakshahi calendar again had its bearing on the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh this year too. The SGPC will observe the Parkash Purb (birth anniversary) on January 17, whereas the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) and gurdwara panels in the US have already commemorated the occasion on January 5.

This is not the first time as in 2022 too, the ‘parkash purb’ was observed twice on January 9, 2022, and December 29, 2022, as well due to discrepancy in dates.

This discrepancy in dates was due to the Nanakshahi calendar row.

The SGPC has scheduled a ‘nagar kirtan’ dedicated to the ‘parkash purb’ of Guru Gobind Singh in Amritsar tomorrow. Earlier, the SGPC had taken out a ‘nagar kirtan’ named ‘Ape Guru Chela’, which started from Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib on January 10. After passing through various places, it will culminate on January 16 at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, where the main event has been scheduled for January 17.
