The Congress leaders condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of those whose names appeared in the suicide note of the IPS officer. "Their names should be incorporated in the FIR without any delay," they demanded.
A Haryana cadre IPS officer, Y Puran Kumar ended his life by shooting himself dead at his Sector 11 house in Chandigarh on October 7. He left behind an eight-page suicide note accusing senior IPS and IAS officers of caste-based discrimination, harassment and humiliation which forced him to take the extreme step of ending his life.
Ashwani Kumar Pappu accused the BJP government in Haryana of playing dirty politics by polarising people along communal and caste lines which has led to such instances.
He said the peaceful candle march carried out by the Congress party on Monday was a strong message against caste-based discrimination and atrocities. He condemned the Haryana government for its inaction which has only exposed its anti-Dalit face.
"We demand that the Haryana government should immediately include the names of the suspects given in the suicide note in the FIR and initiate impartial probe into the matter," he said.
He said the suicide of a senior IPS officer in such a manner is a matter of grave concern. "What would the plight of an ordinary Dalit man be like when a senior IPS officer from the community faces such a tragic fate," he pointed out.
He said the culprits should face the law. It was a fight not only concerning Y Puran Kumar but all the people from the community who face such discrimination and harassment in society every day.
