The deceased party leader, Gurmel Singh, who was former sarpanch of Toot village and block president of the party, was shot dead on Wednesday night by three motorcycle-borne gangsters. He was on way back after taking part in strengthening an embankment of the Sutlej on his tractor when he was shot dead.

Addressing the party workers, Warring condemned the state government for its failure to protect people. He said gangsters were ruling the state and people have been left at the mercy of them by the state government.
