According to Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Singh was intercepted by police while traveling in a Fortuner SUV, acting on a tip-off. Singh had been working under the National Health Mission in the Civil Surgeon’s office at Ferozepur.

Singh confessed to being active in the illegal drug trade for the past three months, making several rounds of the holy city for smuggling contraband. He, along with an accomplice, would pick up narcotics from near the Indo-Pak border on instructions from Pakistan-based handlers.

The police commissioner noted that despite Ferozepur being a border district, Singh chose the Amritsar border belt for smuggling to avoid exposure. A checkpoint was laid on the Loharaka road after receiving specific input that Singh was roaming in the Amritsar area to pick up a drug consignment.

The police are investigating further to expose Singh’s links and arrest his accomplices.
