Cops seize drone from Sub-Inspector's murder suspect

On the disclosure of Amandeep Singh, a resident of Kot Mehtab Khan village in Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran, the special cell of the Amritsar police has recovered a Pakistani drone used for crossborder smuggling of weapons.

The flying machine was hidden in a drain at the border village of Ratnawali around two months ago, said SSP, Amritsar (Rural), Maninder Singh.

Amandeep Singh, one of the accused in the killing of Tarn Taran police Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh, was arrested by the special cell on Saturday and three Glock pistols along with six bullets and two mobile phones were seized from him. Besides, the police had also arrested Sukhchain Singh of Manawala Khurd village.

Satwinder Singh, in-charge of the special cell, said on Amandeep’s information, the police launched a search operation near the Ratnawali village drain and recovered a small Chinese drone able to carry a payload of up to 1kg. The police said the drone might have been used for smuggling of weapons and drugs from the Pakistan side.

Further investigations were on to ascertain how many weapons he got smuggled from Pakistan.

The Tarn Taran police would also take him on production warrant and arrest him for the SI’s murder occurred on April 9. SI Charanjit Singh had gone to Kot Mehtab Kha village after the police received a call on 112 helpline about firing between two groups. When he along with his team reached there, he tried to settle the matter. However, the two groups started pelting each other and the police team with stones. In the melee, one of the groups started firing which hit SI Charanjit Singh. An ASI, Jasbir Singh, was also injured in the incident. The police had arrested an AAP sarpanch among around 20 persons in the case.

Accused Amandeep Singh was evading arrest and had been hiding since then. He has changed his appearance in order to dodge the police.
