With the arrest of two alleged drug smugglers, the Amritsar rural police today claimed to have busted a cross-border drug cartel and recovered 2 kg of heroin from their possession. The accused have been identified as Prem Singh, a resident of Attari, and Omkar Singh alias Happy, of Hargobindpura area located on Wadali Road, Chheharta here.

Yaadwinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the police had received information that the accused were in direct contact with Pakistani smugglers and were sourcing heroin from across the international border for supply to various districts of Punjab.

The Gharinda police team intercepted them on the India Gate-Khassa route and recovered 2 kg of heroin from their possession.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Gharinda police station. The DSP said that further investigations are underway.
