DAP shortage: 60% of requirement already met, says Amritsar DC

Amid the ongoing shortage of DAP (diammonium phosphate) fertiliser, the district administration on Saturday clarified that nearly 60 per cent of the fertilizer required for sowing of crops has already reached the district.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said for the sowing of wheat, potato and peas on 1.89 lakh hectares in the district, a total of 30,000 metric tonnes of DAP is required. Till date, nearly 17,662 MT fertiliser has already reached the district.

Sawhney said the remaining fertiliser would also reach the district within the next few days and farmers should not worry. The fertiliser sellers have also been warned against the tagging of other chemicals with the sale of DAP. Strict action would be taken against those shopkeepers who are found tagging other items with DAP fertilizer, she added.

The DC said 60 per cent of the total DAP stock coming to the district is being given to farmer cooperative society and the remaining 40 per cent is being given to private traders.
