A day after two youths died at Isapur village under mysterious circumstances, family members and residents of the village held a demonstration in Ajnala today. They demanded registration of a murder case in this regard.

They expressed their dissatisfaction over police action so far. The police had registered an FIR on the charge of causing death by negligence terming it an outcome of a road mishap.

The deceased were identified as Gurpreet Singh and his brother Gurdeep Singh of Dabar village. They along with their friend Ram Singh of the same village had gone towards Isapur village for some work. Their bodies were found in the fields. They were travelling on a bike which was also found lying in the fields.

Surjit Singh, brother of the deceased, said on Friday evening, Gurdeep went to his brother-in-law (sister’s husband) Gagandeep Singh’s place in Mattia village with Gurpreet and Ram Singh. He said when they did not return, they tried to contact them but failed.

Later, when he was going from Ishapur to Chhina Karam Singh wala village road, he found the two in the fields of Hartej Singh. Both had died. Ram Singh is under treatment at a private hospital and was unfit to give a statement to the police. Following preliminary probe, the police registered a case under Sections 304-A, 337, 338, 427 and 279 of the IPC against unidentifies persons.

The family members alleged that there were sharp weapon injuries on the victims’ bodies. They alleged they were murdered. Seeking registration of a murder FIR, they sat on a dharna outside Ajnala Chowk and blocked traffic. Ajnala police station SHO Harjit Singh assured the agitators that they would add the murder charge after getting the autopsy report.
