Punjab DGP reviews security measures ahead of Independence Day

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and DIG Amritsar Border Range Nanak Singh and other police officials were also present during the meeting.
The DGP briefed the officials regarding the current security scenario. He reviewed the counter-terror measures being taken by the police apart from issuing operational directives. He stressed on the inter-district coordination among the force and organising high visibility checkpoints. He also emphasised on the 24x7 surveillance to prevent any law and order trouble in the city.
Recently, Pro-Khalistan graffiti have appeared at three different places in the city and later, Sikhs For justice, a banned organisation led by US-based designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, had taken the responsibility of the same. Taking prompt action, the police had arrested two persons, including a juvenile from Batala, who were lured for easy money by Pannu’s associates.
Interacting with the officials, he also directed district police chiefs to ensure strict, transparent and uncompromising enforcement under the NDPS Act while further asking them to intensify the anti-drug campaign to wipe out the drug menace from the state.
He also stressed on financial investigations under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act and against hawala operators to dismantle the entire ecosystem of drug trafficking.
He asked the officials to ensure police presence at all important places. Also, the police have intensified the night domination operations.
Police Commissioner Bhullar and DIG Border Range Nanak Singh said in view of the high alert, the cops were conducting regular patrolling, especially during nights, in order prevent any potential threats or disruptions. The police presence near and around the religious and other crowded spaces have been increased apart from other sensitive and vital locations.
Meanwhile, the DGP also engaged with officers across all ranks, including station house officers (SHOs), encouraging an open discussion and exchange of valuable field insights to strengthen inter-district coordination and dismantle drug supply chains.
