Dr Kulwinder Singh of Makowal village, who runs a private hospital at Sudhar village, was shot at by two armed assailants at his hospital on Friday. He suffered bullet injuries in the arm and stomach and was rushed to another hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
Dr Kulwinder Singh, who also works as an arhtiya (commission agent), had received extortion calls from foreign-based gangster Jeevan Fauji. The first such call was received on June 1 and the accused had demanded Rs 50 lakh from him. As he did not pay up, unidentified bikers opened fire at his hospital on July 11, allegedly at the behest of the Fauji, who again threatened him of dire consequences if the money was not paid.
