Drive to register stem cell donors begins

In a bid to support cancer patients suffering from thalassemia and other blood-related diseases, the Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the KV Eye Welfare Society and the Arjan Veer Foundation, organised a stem cell donation campaign here on Monday. The aim is to encourage people to donate stem cells, which can be used to treat various life-threatening diseases, said Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney.

The DC said the campaign has already garnered significant support with around 50 people registering themselves as stem cell donors. These donors have pledged to donate their stem cells whenever a cancer patient is in need.

The DC appealed to the residents of the district to come forward and register themselves as stem cell donors. “Your donation can help save the lives of cancer patients,” she emphasised.

Stem cell transplantation is a proven treatment for various blood-related diseases, including thalassemia and leukaemia. The procedure involves replacing damaged stem cells with healthy ones, which can help restore normal blood cell production.

By donating stem cells, individuals can make a significant difference in the lives of cancer patients. The district administration has appealed that if you are interested in registering yourself as a stem cell donor, please contact the Red Cross Society for more information.
