Drivers under the banner of the Transporter School Union, Tarn Taran, held a protest over issuing challans to 48 school buses for violating the norms of the Safe School Vahan Policy. School buses remained off the road on here Wednesday. Later, drivers presented a memorandum of their demands to officials concerned.

Addressing the protesters, union leaders Kanwaljit Singh, Guriqbal Singh and Narinder Singh condemned the administration’s move to challan school buses. They said replacing old buses with new buses would put financial burden on parents of school students. Moreover, they could not bear the cost of new buses, the leaders said.

Leaders demanded exemption of pending tax dues which they had to pay during the Covid-19 pandemic when there was no work due to imposition of complete lockdown in the state.

They also condemned the alleged indifferent attitude of the District Child Security Officer (DCSO), who used offensive language against drivers, while challaning school buses.
