Drug peddler nabbed with 4.5 kg of heroin
The Amritsar rural police have arrested a cross-border drug smuggler and confiscated 4.5 kg of heroin from his possession. A case has been registered against him at the Lopoke police station while further probe is in progress after bringing him on police remand.
Harinder Singh Gill, SP (Detective), said the trafficker was identified as Harpreet Singh, alias Luv (22), of Shahoora village. As per preliminary investigations, the contraband was smuggled from Pakistan via drones.
“We got specific inputs that the accused had links with Pakistan-based smugglers and had been active for the past several months,” he said, while adding that Harpreet did not have any previous criminal record. He worked as a farm labourer.
The informer told the police that he was in possession of a huge quantity of drugs and was waiting for someone to deliver the consignment. Following this, a police team led by Lopoke Station House Officer (SHO) Himanshu Bhagat laid a naka near the cremation ground located on the outskirts of Shahoora village. The police caught Harpreet and seized the drugs from his possession.
Harinder Singh Gill, SP (Detective), said that further probe was on to identify his backward and forward linkages. His mobile phone has been sent for technical and forensic analysis to help in nailing his accomplices.
Further probe in the case is on, he added.
