As part of its ‘War against drugs’ campaign, the district police have frozen property worth Rs 9 crore of five drug smugglers on Sunday. The police pasted notices on the outer portion of the frozen property today.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek, in a press release issued here today, informed that proceedings have been initiated on orders issued by the proper authority of the Finance Ministry of the Union Government. The SSP said that the frozen property, estimated to be of Rs 7 crore in value, belongs to smuggler Nishan Singh, a resident of Daleke, which is of high value as compared to the properties of other smugglers.

The SSP added that the frozen property includes Rs 41 lakh worth assets of Tejpal Singh of Kaler and property worth Rs 48 lakh of Hardeep Singh, a resident of Thathi Sohal village. The SSP informed that the frozen property includes assets worth Rs 46 lakh of drug smuggler Akashdeep Singh Kashi of Ruranwala Khurd and assets worth Rs 66 lakh of Harjinder Singh alias Ajay, a resident of Verowal Bawian.

The SSP said the step was intended to be a message to the drug smugglers to mend their ways and join the mainstream of society. The SSP said that from January 1 till date, property worth Rs 23 crore of 44 drug smugglers have been put under freeze, and it was the only way to deliver a message to the anti-social elements to think of the betterment of society.
