The police have tightened the noose around the e-rickshaw and auto rickshaw drivers who have been asked to wear uniform while plying the vehicles and also to pickup and drop the passengers along the roadsides instead of middle of road that may lead to accidents.

The huge number of auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw on the city road not only provide easy transport for the public but it has also become a nuisance for the commuters because of their chaotic driving. They are in the habit of stop abruptly in the middle of road whenever they see their potential passenger on the roadside. This has led to road accidents a number of times.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amandeep Kaur has held a meeting with the auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers and strictly asked them to follow the traffic norms and also wear grey colour uniforms while plying the vehicles on the road. She asked them to pickup and drop the passengers from and on the roadsides.

“There should be name plates on the uniforms also apart from the park their vehicles in a streamlined manner rather than chaotic way that leads to the traffic jams on the road,” she said. She also asked them to maintain and keep all the documents with them before bringing their vehicles on the road otherwise strict action would be taken against them.

She said there have been a number of complaints from the commuters regarding the problem being faced by them because of the disorderly way of driving by the auto-rickshaw drivers. We are holding regular meeting with them and those who would not adhere to the norms, would face the music.
