The Education Department, under the guidance of District Education Officer (Secondary) Satnam Singh Bath, organised a district-level competition in painting, poster, lecture and role-play to mark the 77th World Human Rights Day on Wednesday. The DEO said that the aim of the educational competition was to develop an understanding and awareness of their rights among the students.

Students from various schools of the district participated in the competitions. The winners were honoured by the District Education Officer (Secondary). Speaking on the occasion, the DEO said that there was need for the students to be made aware of their human rights. He said that Tarn Taran district is continuously performing well in the field of education.

Nodal Officer (Legal awareness) Rajni Bala and the DEO gave away prizes to the position holders in the competition.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
