The Sadar police have cracked a blind murder case of an elderly woman, who was found dead in Vijay Nagar area on Wednesday, with the arrest of a resident of Ludhiana.

The accused, identified as Tikshan Soon (29), was a resident of Aman Avenu in Ludhiana and was a friend of complainant Ankur Mahajan, a resident of Vijay Nagar area.

Mahajan told the police that yesterday he went to his work while his mother Sunita (70) was alone in the house. He said when he returned in the night, he found the outer gate opened and her mother’s body lying in the drawing room. He said three were injury marks around her neck and face due to strangulations. The wardrobe in the nearby room was ransacked.

The police cracked the case within 24 hours and arrested the accused from Ludhiana. He said accused Tikshan Sood was a friend of Ankur Mahajan and therefore, he knew that she was alone at home. He said Sood entered the house for theft, but the victim identified him. Fearing that he was exposed, he strangled her.
