Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi Fauji, an Army personnel arrested by the Amritsar (Rural) police for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI, had leaked confidential information about the Army during the “Operation Sindoor”. This came to light during his interrogation.

Amritsar (Rural) police chief Maninder Singh, however, said the information was being verified. Fauji was posted in Jammu and Kashmir at that time.

The investigation revealed that Fauji had been indulging in anti-national activities for around eight months. Fauji and his accomplice Sahil Masih, both residents of Dhariwal village under the Lopoke police station, were arrested recently. Suspicious transactions from Pakistan were found in Sahil’s account that led the police to bust the espionage racket.

After joining the Army in 2016, Gurpreet remained posted in Delhi and Meerut, apart from Jammu and Kashmir. At present, he is in police remand.

The preliminary probe revealed that he was in direct contact with ISI handler Rana Javed. Gurpreet came in contact with the ISI through Arjan, a Dubai-based drug trafficker from Dhariwal. The SSP said the process had been initiated to issue look out circular (LoC) for Arjan.
