The event was inaugurated by FLO national president Poonam Sharma, FLO Amritsar Chairperson Mona Singh and other members with a ceremonial lamp-lighting. The programme featured cultural performances, including Giddha and Gatka.
Addressing the gathering, Poonam said the initiative aimed to generate funds for flood relief and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to social service. She said FLO was determined to extend every possible assistance to affected families. Mona Singh, Chairperson of FLO Amritsar, said the organisation had already begun repair work on houses damaged by the floods, with two homes restored so far. She added that FLO would continue to provide assistance, including food and household supplies, and ensure that all funds raised through the bazaar were fully utilised for flood relief.
Earlier, Poonam was accorded a warm welcome on her arrival in Amritsar. Accompanied by Mona Singh, she paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib, where the duo donated 10 wheelchairs to the SGPC management.
Calling the Golden Temple a symbol of peace and humanity, Sharma said it was a blessing to receive the opportunity to visit. She also underlined women’s increasing role in diverse fields including defence, cinema, corporate and fashion, noting that Indian women designers were earning international recognition.
Mona Singh said FLO’s mission was to promote women’s economic and social empowerment and help them become self-reliant entrepreneurs.
