Visitors using the parking facilities at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International airport have complained of being overcharged, particularly at night. Despite the display board showing the parking fee for different durations, the parking attendants are allegedly charging exorbitant rates.

Gurjeet Kaur, a visitor, who recently used the parking facility, shared her experience. “I parked my vehicle for almost 40 minutes and was asked to pay Rs 120 at the exit point,” she said. When Kaur questioned the attendant, she was told that the charges had been revised. However, when she pointed out that the display board did not reflect the new rates, the attendant claimed that the board was yet to be updated and was

“under print”.

This is not an isolated incident as many passengers have reported similar experiences. The lack of transparency and accountability has led to widespread frustration among travellers. The display board is visible at only one of the two exit slots, but it is often not visible

at night.

Harpreet Kaur, another resident, said, “Usually people are too busy to argue with the parking attendants as they think that it would leave a bad impression on the guests they have just picked up from the airport. Moreover, the display boards should be put up in a well-lit area so that people can see them.” She said for two exit gates, which are side by side, there is only one board which is on the far left and usually remains out of sight of drivers.

Passengers are demanding that airport authorities should take immediate action to address these concerns and ensure that the parking fee is displayed clearly and accurately. As one passenger put it, “It’s not just about the money; it’s about the principle. We deserve transparency and fairness when using

public facilities.”
