Food Commissioner urges Dera Beas to integrate millets in community kitchen

A delegation led by Punjab State Food Commissioner Bal Mukand Sharma met Gurinder Singh Dhillon, the head of Dera Radha Soami Satsang, at its headquarters in Beas. The delegation urged Dhillon to incorporate millet-based nutrition into the community kitchen as part of efforts to enhance nutritional security, promote sustainable agriculture and support community welfare initiatives.

The visiting delegation included Punjab State Food Commission member Chetan Parkash Dhaliwal, president of PS Arts and Cultural Society Chandigarh Parveen Sandhu, general secretary Rajdeep Kaur Multani, Navjot Sandhu, Arshdeep Singh, Gaurav Malhotra, an Australia-based educational institution owner and his wife Sandeep Kaur.

Sharma stressed the importance of integrating millet-based and nutrient-rich foods into community kitchens to improve public health.

The Dera head, Dhillon welcomed these suggestions, highlighting the benefits of reducing paddy cultivation to conserve groundwater, improving soil health and enhancing nutritional outcomes. He reaffirmed Dera Beas’s commitment to sustainable practices aligned with these objectives.

Parveen Sandhu presented her debut handwritten book, “Maa Da Punarjanam,” a tribute to motherhood, to Dhillon. In response, he shared a personal story, emphasising the irreplaceable role of mothers, as he cares for his 96-year-old mother.
