The incident assumes significance as gangsters have been using grenades to target police establishments in the Majha area. Sixteen attacks have been reported in the last seven months.

SSP Suhail Qasim Mir neither confirmed nor denied whether the grenades were live or not. “We are questioning locals. Investigations are underway. More information will be divulged once there is some clarity,” he added. A senior officer, however, said the grenades were live. Meanwhile, a hand grenade, a 30-bore pistol and 10 live bullets were seized from Malkit Singh of Pandori village in Amritsar district.
