A 13-year-old girl, who was kept under detention and tortured for the past year by her father and his relatives, was rescued after the intervention of the District Children Welfare Officer here on Sunday. The juvenile girl was reunited with her mother and four persons were booked by the Sarhali police. Those booked include father of the victim Balwant Singh, a resident of Bhullar; Sarabjit Kaur, Balwant’s sister; and Sharanpreet Singh and Ranjit Kaur the children of Sarabjit.

Rajesh Kumar, District Child Welfare Officer, said he received a report that the Balwant was an alcoholic and separated from his wife. A year ago, he handed over the responsibility of his daughter to Sarabjit at Sheron village. Sarabjit used to make the child work as a domestic servant and brutally beat her.

Rajesh brought the matter to the notice of the DC and SSP. After investigation the accused were booked.
