To commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, BBKDAV College for Women on Wednesday organised a two-day ICSSR-sponsored international conference ‘Kudrat ke Sab Bandey’ – Reflections on the life and legacy of Guru Nanak Dev in the contemporary context today.

Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia said the aim was to provide a platform to academicians and researchers to exchange ideas on Guru Nanak Dev. The keynote address was delivered by Prof Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamsala, as he spoke on the diversity in Guru Nanak’s bani as it contained traces of Sanskrit grammar, Marathi, Rajasthani, Islamic and many more languages. “The diversity of Asian culture as well as Indian culture can well be understood by studying Gurbani and Guru Nanak’s teachings. The three principles of Guru Nanak — kirat karo, naam japo and vand shako — are relevant even today.”

Throwing light on Guru Nanak’s teachings, Dr Ramesh Arya, vice-president, DAVCMC, New Delhi, said this conference was a platform for everyone to understand what Guru Nanak taught us. Dr Alonzo L Gaskill, a professor from Brigham Young University, USA, presented a paper titled ‘Guru Nanak’s Vision of God’.
