Punjabi novelist Nirmal Singh Nimma, who had written popularly acclaimed novel Bordernama, was honoured by the Department of Punjabi Studies, GNDU, here, on Thursday. Nirmal’s novel Hind-Pak Bordernama, released in 2015, was a biographical account of his across the border love story with a Muslim girl at a time when Punjab on both sides was not divided by barbed wires. The novel was widely acclaimed as a sensitive portrayal of the situation during the late 70s and early 80s.

Nirmal Singh visited his alma mater, GNDU, from where he had done his masters in Punjabi. He interacted with students as well as some of his readers and admirers during a brief session on his book. He shared that it took him five years to pen down the novel. “Today, when I get appreciated for my work, I feel blessed,” he said. “A production house in Bollywood too is in talks with him to make a film based on his story,” he added.
