GNDU inks 5-year pact with Canadian University

For promoting scholarly activities and international understanding, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and the Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Canada, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) here on Tuesday. Officials of both universities were present on the occasion. The MoU will be valid for five years.

From the GNDU, the MoU was signed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof SS Behl and coordinator, international relations, Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi. From the MUN, it was signed by Provost and Vice-President Dr Noreen Golfman and Director of International Office Prof Sonja Knutson.

A delegation of the MUN led by Prof Knutson and Prof Sukhinder Kaur Cheema is on a visit to the GNDU.

Prof Knutson said, “Building relationships with international academic partners has been a key to the success of MUN’s worldwide strategy. We are hopeful of a long and fruitful collaboration with the GNDU.”

The GNDU Vice-Chancellor said the MoU would further improve the standards of research-based study in the university. “This collaboration is an immense opportunity to promote cooperative research. Modes of the cooperation can include faculty visits for a collaboration in research, student mobility programmes for learning, development of cooperative research projects and dissemination of finding through scholarly publication,” he added.

Prof Bedi said, “The collaboration will create more opportunities for our students and faculty members. The MoU will provide a good foundation for long-term development between the two universities. Both universities will benefit through international exchanges that will not only enrich the campus environment but also provide students with international-learning experiences.”
