Eight shooters of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) have brought laurels to their institution by winning medals at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship 2025 held from August 16-30, at Kazakhstan. The GNDU shooters created history by securing the highest number of medals won by shooters from any single university, clinching five individual gold, six team gold, one mixed team gold, one team silver, one individual silver and one bronze.

Among the medal winners are Neeru, Abhinav Shaw, Adriyan Karmakar and Sift Kaur Samra, who secured gold in individual and team events in Trap Shooting, 10m Rifle, Jr 50m 3P Rifle, and 50m 3P Rifle. Aishwary Partap Tomar won gold and silver in 50m 3P Rifle individual and team events; Harmehar Singh Lally secured gold, silver and bronze in mixed team, individual and team events; while Ashi Choksey and Umesh Choudhary bagged gold medals in 50m 3P Rifle team and Jr Free Pistol 50m events.

Adriyan Karmakar set a new Asian record in the Jr 50m 3P Rifle individual event, marking a historic milestone for the university and the country.

Dr Karamjeet Singh, vice-chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, congratulated the shooters on their exceptional performance and for bringing glory to the nation. Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Director, Sports, lauded the shooters for their tremendous efforts and thanked the university authorities for their support in making this success possible. Rajwinder Kaur, university shooting coach, also congratulated the players for their disciplined and dedicated performance. She said that with extensive and inclusive training programme being offered to athletes at the university, especially for shooting, sports persons from the university are raising the bar with every performance.
