GNDU to hold its Foundation Day celebrations on November 24

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) will celebrate its 56th Foundation Day on November 24. The first meeting to review its arrangements was held on Tuesday in the Senate Hall under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Karamjit Singh. The VC constituted various committees for the conduct of various events planned for the day and to host several dignitaries on the occasion. Registrar Dr KS Chahal presented the agenda, which included a series of cultural, educational and religious programmes.

The vice-chancellor informed that the events scheduled for the day will be conducted with full preparedness in regard to the cleanliness, traffic and security. He said that this is an opportunity to salute the heritage of the university and reflect on the eternal teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev.

Registrar Dr KS Chahal said that on November 22 at 9 am, Sri Akhand Path Sahib will begin in the University Gurdwara, the Bhog of which will be held on November 24. The university will host a series of religious ceremonies. The Publication Bureau will organise a book exhibition in which up to 50 per cent discount will be given on university publications. The exhibition of rare manuscripts and historical photographs in Bhai Gurdas Library will be the centre of attraction.

Various colleges will participate in the folk art exhibition for which cash awards have been announced. The first, second and third place winners in the painting competition will get a cash prize of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, respectively. The educational lectures will be held at the Sikh Studies Auditorium. Guru Ka Langar will be held in front of the indoor stadium. A special committee has been formed for cleanliness, water and food quality. Deepmala will be lit on the main buildings of the campus.

“Foundation Day is not just a function, but a sacred day of commitment to the principles of equality, service and knowledge of Guru Nanak Dev. I extend an open invitation to the residents of Amritsar and the university family to join these events,” he said.
