After excelling in academics and extra-curricular activities, Pandit Mohan Lal SD College for Women has added another feather to its cap by attaining the overall second runners-up position in the Inter-College (Women), B-Division, Sports Championships which was organised by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, recently.
Principal Dr Neeru Sharma and her colleagues were elated after seeing their institution having achieved success in the field of sports.

"We have already earned accolades in academics and extra-curricular activities. It was high time that our students came out with stellar performances in the sports arena. I am proud of our sportswomen, all of whom are a talented lot. Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence win championships. Our girls possessed all these ingredients. Our sportswomen never gave up even when they had to face the odds. After all, it is hard to beat a team that is not willing to give up. This is a tribute to our sportswomen's dedication, discipline and determination throughout the 2024-2025 session," said Principal Sharma.
The trophy was won by Hindu College, Amritsar, while PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, took the first runners-up position followed by the Gurdaspur college.
The trophy was presented to Dr Neeru Sharma by GNDU vice-chancellor Prof Karamjeet Singh. Dr Neeru was accompanied by Gagandeep Kaur, Head of the Department of Physical Education, Aruna and Parshotam Sharma, basketball and volleyball coaches, respectively.
The spotlight was hogged by Arshdeep Kaur who had won a silver medal in the All-India Inter-University Boxing Championship for Women. She was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 by the GNDU vice-chancellor.
"Arshdeep's performance is all the more significant as it comes in the face of numerous challenges, primarily rooted in deep-seated societal stereotypes, limited infrastructure in
a small city like Gurdaspur and financial constraints. Despite all this, Arshdeep secured a medal in the All-India meet," said Dr Neeru Sharma.
