Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) received its Olympian shooters, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sifat Kaur Samra, who were part of the Indian shooting contingent at Paris Olympics 2024. Both are students of the Department of Physical Education, GNDU.

Vice-chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Dean Academic Affairs Prof Palwinder Singh, Registrar Dr KS Kahlon, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Head of Physical Education Department Dr Amandeep Singh and sports in-charge Dr Kanvarmandeep Singh were present at the felicitation function held for the two.

GNDU shooting coach Rajwinder Kaur said that the two shooters have put spotlight on the sport and on the GNDU sports programme with their exceptional skill and talent. Both Sifat Kaur and Tomar were medal aspirants before their Paris Olympics journey began as the two had secured gold at the Asian Games in Hangzhou (China) with individual feats in their respective events.

GNDU vice-chancellor Prof Jaspal Sandhu said that both Ashwarya Pratap Singh Tomar and Sifat Kaur Samra have demonstrated remarkable talent, dedication and sportsmanship while competing at the Paris Olympics 2024. “Their participation not only shows their personal commitment but also highlights the important contribution of Guru Nanak Dev University in nurturing sports talent. Both shooters displayed exemplary skills at the Olympics, bringing pride not only to themselves but to the nation and GNDU,” he said.

Aishwary was also part of the Indian contingent at Tokyo Olympics while this was Sifat’s first Olympics.
