A 38-year-old woman was killed under mysterious circumstances and her body disposed of by the accused. Illicit relations of the deceased’s husband are said to be the root cause behind the crime.

The Patti city police have nominated her husband along with his paramour besides three other members of the in-laws’ family as the accused. The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Kaur (38) who was allegedly killed by strangulation. The body has not yet been found. Inspector Harpreet Singh, SHO, Patti city, said here today that the accused have been identified as Chamkaur Singh, husband of the deceased, Sukhwinder Kaur (mother), a resident of Patti town, Sarabjit Kaur (sister), Gurpreet Singh (Sarabjit’s son), a resident of Kulla and Reena, a resident of Himachal Pradesh. The SHO said that the deceased was married to accused Chamkaur Singh about 17 years back. In the meantime, Chamkaur Singh developed illicit relations with Reena resulting in differences between the couple.

Tarsem Singh, a resident of Bhullar village and brother of the deceased Gurpreet Kaur, alleged in his statement to the Patti city police that his sister’s husband and other members of his family had killed her and disposed of the body. A case under Sections 103, 238, 191 (3) and 190 of the BNS was registered on Wednesday.

The accused were absconding, said the SHO. The police are carrying out raids at the possible hide-outs of the accused.
