Daljit Singh Dialpura of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha and Pargat Singh Sheron of the Mill Bachao Action Committee were among those present there.

They said the mill that had commenced operations in the area in 1987 was beneficial for the farmers and was providing employment opportunities to 5,000 persons.

They said Mand area farmers were growing sugarcane crop by crop diversification of wheat and paddy, which was the policy of the government as well. The leaders expressed their resentment for closing the mills nearly 20 years ago without any reason having been stated.
