Since August 26, when massive floods hit the border villages in Ramdass and Ajnala areas in Ajnala sub-division, the Kalgidhar Trust’s Akal Sewa teams have been actively engaged in rescue, rehabilitation and rebuilding operations across Punjab’s flood-hit regions.

The Trust had earlier promised to build around 100 pre-fabricated houses to the victims of marginal families who lost their houses in the floods in Punjab.

Under the supervision of Jagjit Singh,vice-president of the Trust, five new homes were completed within 24 hours in the villages of Lalwala, Jaggi Wala, Dabar, Wanjhanwali Nangal and Galib. Each beneficiary family also received essential household items, including beds, mattresses, fans and kitchen rations, said Dr Dalvinerjit Singh, president of the Trust.

He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring that every rupee donated by the Sangat (devotees) is used meaningfully for the welfare of flood victims. He added that in the next phase, houses damaged by floods will either be repaired or rebuilt after due assessment. The Trust also announced plans to construct 100 pre-fabricated houses, ranging from 400 to 900 square feet, with the collective support of the community through Daswandh.

Giani Raghbir Singh also lauded the Trust’s innovative and compassionate approach toward quick rehabilitation.

So far, the Akal Sewa teams of Kalgidhar Trust have rescued and relocated over 7,500 individuals from 153 villages. Continuous prayers (Sri Sehaj Paath Sahib) are being held at Gurudwara Baru Sahib for the well-being and Chardikala (spiritual upliftment) of Punjab.

The Trust handed over five more houses to beneficiaries in Gurdaspur district on Monday.
