The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have arrested Jashanpreet Singh, a resident of Batala, for his alleged involvement in several incidents of Khalistan-related graffiti at various locations in the city.

According to the police, during interrogation the accused revealed that he was in possession of a Glock 9mm pistol. A police team took him to seize the weapon, during which he allegedly opened fire on the officers with the recovered pistol. The police fired a warning shot, but he reportedly targeted the team again. In self-defence, the police returned fire, injuring him in the leg.

The injured accused was immediately taken to hospital for treatment. A fresh case has been registered at the Airport Police Station, Amritsar.

Police officials said further investigation is under way to trace the entire network and handlers behind such anti-national activities.
