Lawyer hacks wife to death, calls police to surrender

In a shocking incident, a lawyer identified as Baljit Mann, allegedly brutally hacked his wife to death in Judge Nagar locality here late last evening. The accused himself called the police and surrendered. The deceased was identified as Vikramjit Kaur (37). She was teacher in a private school. The police teams headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) Gurinderbir Singh reached the spot and carried out investigation. Forensic teams also reached the spot.

At the time of the incident, the couple was alone in the house. Their 18-year-old son had gone to the gym while Baljit’s mother had gone to the market.

Eyewitnesses said after killing his wife, Baljit went to the rooftop and started shouting that he had murdered his spouse, call the police. Later, he himself informed the police. The police immediately reached the spot and arrested Baljit Mann from the house. Blood was splattered on his cloth. ACP Gurinderbir Singh said Baljit Mann had repeatedly hit the victim on the head with sharp weapon. He said an FIR had been registered and further investigation was in progress. He said according to Baljit’s family members, no dispute was noticed between the couple earlier.

The ACP said as per preliminary probe, the accused was suspicious that victim had extra-marital affair which ultimately led to her murder.
